The New Prince of Tennis (新テニスの王子様 Shin Tennis
no Oujisama) is a sequel of Prince of Tennis, after the end of Nationals.
In The New Prince of Tennis, Ryoma comes back from United States after he received
an invitation to the U-17 camp in Japan, an unbelievable event because it was
the first time middle schoolers were invited to the renowned training camp.
Ryoma and 50 other middle school players begin a new journey
to the U-17, a place compared to a cage of monsters. Old and new faces appear,
fighting for the top 20 spots as the 1st stringers that play as the Japanese
High School Representatives Selection Camp against top potentials from other
countries.
During the camp, the middle school players encounter old
captains, OBs, rivals, and other individuals who take interest in the
youngsters. Through pain, blood, and sweat, the middle school students not only
acquired new tennis style techniques, but also learned the meaning of
rising up to top after living through humiliating defeat.
The U-17 (under 17) training camp, is a
selection camp for top potentials in the Japanese tennis world. Before, only
high schoolers were able to participate, but because the level of middle school
tennis players has risen a lot some of them were invited as well.
Everyone is seperated by strength from court 1 to 16. The
lower the court number, the stronger the players are.
Everyday, before practice there a shuffle matches, between
players from different courts. To rise a court, you need to win against a
‘stronger’ opponent. But if you lose against someone ‘weaker’, you’ll drop a
court.
